The Ukrainian flag was adopted on January 28, 1992 after the fall of the Soviet Republic. The flag was originally adopted in 1918 for a short period for the Ukrainian People`s Republic. The flag contains two horizontal bands that are coloured blue and yellow. The blue on the flag symbolizes the colour of the sky and the yellow stands for the lush golden fields of Ukraine. The colours have been associated with the country since before Christianity and once represented water and fire.
