Wilmington, North Carolina
The North Carolina flag was adopted in March 1885. The flag contains two horizontal strips coloured white and red as well as a dark blue vertical band on the hoist. On the blue band there is a star in-between the states initials. Above the star is a yellow ribbon with the dates May 20th 1775, which was the date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. Below is another yellow ribbon with the dates April 12, 1776 which was the date of the Halifax Resolves.
The nickname for North Carolina is The Old North State or The Tar Heel State (North Carolina’s state song also has the title and theme of Old North State).
