Colombo, Sri Lanka
The national flag of Sri Lanka was adopted on May 22, 1972. The flag contains a yellow border around the flag with two vertical strips near the hoist and a yellow lion on the fly. The two vertical bands are coloured green and saffron with a yellow border separating it from the crimson on the fly. On the crimson square there is the yellow lion holding a sword in his right paw. On each corner of the crimson rectangle there is a golden bo leaf. Since 486 BC when the first King of the island arrived to Sri Lanka with a flag with the lion symbol, the Lion has been an important symbol of Sri Lanka.
