Turnhout, Belgium

Belgium2

The flag of Belgium was adopted on January 23, 1831 after Belgium gained their independence from the Netherlands. The colours were taken from the coat of arms of the Dukes of Brabant.  The flag contains three vertical bands one black, another yellow and the last one red.  The colours were used in honour of an older flag with horizontal bands used in a previous revolt in 1789 in what was then the Austrian Netherlands.
