Les Trois Ilets, Martinique
The only official Martinique flag is the French national flag. The “snake flag” is the banner of arms of Martinique, made of a blue field quartered by a white cross and with a white, L-shaped snake in each corner.
The snake flag was the flag of the former French colony of Martinique and St. Lucia. The L-shaped snakes resemble the “L” of Lucia.
The snake used for the Martinique flag is a venomous serpent related to the rattlesnake commonly found in the sugar cane and banana plantations.
