California

The Californian State flag was adopted in 1911 but modifications into its current design were made in 1953.  The flag was first used during the Bear Flag Revolt when US Settlers in Sonoma then a Mexican province in California proclaimed the Bear Flag Republic during the Mexican-American war.  The single star on the hoist was placed to mimic that of Texas “the Lone Star”.  On the Center is a now extinct California grizzly bear with the words “California Republic” under the bear and a red strip.

PoppyThe Golden State. Between California’s explosive growth following the discovery of gold in 1848, the fields of golden poppies that appear each spring throughout the state, the golden gate bridge, and the clear, golden coastal sunsets over the Pacific – California truly is the golden state! Gold is also one of California’s official state colours.

Thanx - Red
