Dhaka, Bangladesh

Bangladesh

The official flag of Bangladesh was adopted on January 17, 1972. The design has a red disc that is offset slightly toward the hoist over a green field.  The red disc represents the rising sun over the country and the blood of those who died for the independence of Bangladesh.  The green field stands for the natural landscaping of Bangladesh.  The flag was originally based on a flag that was used during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.  The original flag had a map of Bangladesh on the red disc but by orders of General Abul Manzur it was taken off to simplify the design.  The red disc is also offset toward hoist so that it will appear centered when the flag is flying.
