Laos

The flag of Laos was adopted on December 2, 1975 when the country became a Republic. The flag contains three horizontal bands coloured red and blue with a white disc in the center of the blue band.  The red strips represent the bloodshed of those who fought for freedom and the blue represents prosperity.  The white disc symbolizes the moon against the Mekong River but is also set to represent the unity of the people under the leadership of the Lao People`s Revolutionary Party and the country`s bright future.  The national flag of Laos is one of the few flags that don’t have the five pointed star as a symbol.
