France

The flag of France was adopted on May 17, 1853.  The flag is a tri-colour flag that contains three vertical bands which are coloured, blue, white and red.  The colours blue and red are the colours of Paris and white was the colour of the Bourbon Dynasty.  They are often associated with the ideas of the French Revolution like liberty, equality and fraternity.  The colours are also said to represent the three Ancients Regime.  The blue represents the bourgeoisie, the white  stands for the clergy and the red symbolizes nobility.
