The Portuguese flag was adopted on June 30, 1911. The flag is a bi-color flag with a dark green color on the hoist and a red color on the fly. At the center of the division of the colors the flag contains the emblem of the national coat of arms of Portugal. The green on the flag represents hope and the red symbolizes the blood of those who died serving the nation.
