The Scottish Flag was adopted during the 14th Century. The flag contains a white saltire symbolizing the cross of Saint Andrew on a blue field. There are earlier records of the Saint Andrew`s cross that date back to 1165 AD. The legend of the flag states that in 832 AD during a battle against the Angles King Angus and his men prayed for deliverance. At night Saint Andrews who was martyred on a saltire cross appeared and promised the king victory. The next morning a white saltire cross appeared in the blue sky. That day the Picts and Scots defeated the Angles and the Saltire has been the flag of Scotland since then.
