The Rhode Island State House is the capitol of the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It is located on the border of the Downtown and Smith Hill sections of the state capital city of  Providence. The State House is a neoclassical building that houses the Rhode Island General Assembly and the offices of the governor of Rhode Island as well as the lieutenant governor, secretary of state, and General Treasurer of Rhode Island. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Rhode Island

The flag of Rhode Island was officially adopted in 1897.  The flag contains a white filed with a golden anchor in the center and a blue ribbon with the word “hope” which is the state motto.  Encircling the anchor there are thirteen stars symbolizing the thirteen colonies and also Rhode Island as the thirteenth state to ratify the constitution.  The anchor and the word below it are believed to have been inspired by the Hebrews biblical phrase “hope we have as an anchor of the soul”.
