Zarka, (Zarqa) Jordan
The Jordanian flag contains three horizontal bands coloured black, white and green, with a red triangle. The colours are the same as those of the Pan-Arab flag. The colours on the bands represent Abbasid, Umayyad and Fatimid Caliphates. The red triangle stands for the Arab revolt and for the Hashemite dynasty. Inside the triangle is a seven pointed star that stands for the unity of the Arab people and it also stands for the seven verses of the first surah of the Qur`an. The current design of the flag was designed in 1928 when the star was added after gaining its independence from the Ottoman Empire.
