The United Kingdom flag was adopted in 1801 after the Union of Ireland and Great Britain. The flag is known as the Union Flag or Union Jack. The flag contains the Cross of Saint George, the patron saint of England and the Cross of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The crosses are coloured red with white edges and a blue background.
