The flag of Luxembourg was adopted on June 23, 1972. The flag contains three horizontal bands coloured red, white and blue. The colours on the flag came from the Grand Duke`s coat of arms which dates back to the 13th centuries. Before 1830 Luxemburg did not have a flag until patriots were asked to display their national colours.
