New Jersey, (USA)
The flag of New Jersey was adopted on March 11, 1896. The flag contains a buff- coloured background with the Great Seal of the State of New Jersey on the center. The buff colour on the flag was used to represent the buff colour on the uniform coats of the New Jersey Continental line which were ordered by George Washington to be dark blue with buff facings.
The official nickname for New Jersey is The Garden State. The origin of the nickname is hazy at best.
