Tarawa, Kiribati
The flag of Kiribati was adopted on July 12, 1979. The top part of the flag is red and the bottom half contains blue and white wavy strips to represent the ocean. In the center of the flag is a golden Frigatebird flying over a golden sun. The rays of the sun represent the 16 Gilbert Islands and Banaba. The Frigatebird represents command of the sea. The flag contains the same design of the coat of arms of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands.
